
Last July 10,
DOST-CALABARZON
conducted a courtesy call
visit at the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Carmona City, Cavite to pitch
and present the Innovation, Science and Technology for Accelerating Regional Technology-Based
Development (iSTART)
Program.
DOST’s iSTART
is a platform for the strategic alignment of the DOST
technology transfer programs and projects, engagement of Researchers,
Scientists, and Engineers
(RSEs), and conduct of
Research and Development (R&D) needed to
create or improve MSMEs
in support to the development of the countryside.
This program
aims to assist LGUs in
developing a technology-based development
plan for agri-based, manufacturing, and service
sectors and collaborate
with them in order to establish smarter cities
through Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI).
DOST-CALABARZON has
identified the city of Carmona as one of its possible partners.
Present during
the visit was Hon. Dr.
Dahlia A. Loyola, Mayor of
Carmona City, and Hon.
Atty. Roy M. Loyola, 5th
District Representative,
who mentioned the importance of programs like iSTART in the Disaster Risk
Reduction Management
(DRRM) of the city and the
support it can provide to
Micro, Small, and Medium
Enterprises (MSMEs).
Mr. Rommel
Peneyra, Municipal Environmental and Natural
Resources Officer (MENRO), Angelo Macha, Information Technology
Officer III, and other staff
of LGU-Carmona then attended the presentation
of the iSTART Program
led by Emelita Bagsit,
