Cavite: The Department
of the Interior and Local
Government Calabarzon
(DILG 4A), in partnership
with the local government
of Noveleta, will lead the
International Coastal
Cleanup (ICC) Day celebration on Sept. 16, 2023.
The cleanup will
happen simultaneously in
other towns and cities with
beaches here in the province.
Various stakeholders including local
government here under
Mayor Dino Chua and
municipal officials, Philippine National Police
Cavite Maritime Police
Station, Coast Guard
Station, Bureau of Fire
Protection-Noveleta, and
Bureau of Fisheries and
Aquatic Resources-Provincial Fisheries Office
will take part in this annual event which will start at
6:00 in the morning along
the stretch of Sitio Long
Beach, Barangay San Rafael 4.
The annual
coastal cleanup drive
was one of the programs
of the DILG and the local
government of Noveleta
to minimize pollution and
waste materials at the bay.
The town of
Noveleta serves as the
catch basin for rainwater
coming from the upland
area which makes their
location prone to heavy
flooding, especially during
typhoon season like what
happened earlier with Typhoon “Paeng” in 2022.

The solid wastes
along their waterways
cause blockages on canals and drainages which
speed up flooding, resulting in further damage/destruction to properties to
residents and commercial
property owners.
With clean coastal bays, tourism will prosper, and more livelihood
opportunities will follow
through fish harvest and
beach resort customers.
ICC Day celebration vision is to have
a balanced and healthy
ocean that is free of trash
and pollution in order to
have cleaner and healthier
lives.
Its mission is to
help clean the seas, rivers, lakes and waterways,
and to raise awareness of
the growing marine debris
problem. MT
